American Legion Flag Collection

The following Republic County veterans’ coffin flags were donated by their families to the Robert E. Gordon American Legion Post #133 in Belleville, Kansas. The Post disbanded on May 10, 2018. The Post building was put up for sale and the Republic County Historical Society took possession of the flags in April, 2021.

We will provide safekeeping for these flags, with the understanding that if current family members would like to claim a family member’s flag, we will locate the flag and give the flag to them (we have branch of service and other information to help identify flags of relatives).

The Museum Gift Shop has several types of flag cases for sale for displaying family flags, with proceeds going for flag storage and preservation. We are pleased to save and preserve these precious flags of Republic County Veterans. Update for the end of 2021: We have returned five of these flags to family members!
