Special Events  The museum will have a Grand Reopening on November 25, 2023. We have been closed nearly nine months for additions to the building and renovations of the existing main Museum building! The ceremony will be held at 2:00 p.m. on the 25th of November at the Museum. New displays honoring A. Q. Miller, early 20th Century advocate for good and connecting highways and one honoring Belleville native Jim Richardson, nationally and internationally famous photographer of nature, the Great Plains and Cuba, Kansas. Jim and his wife Kathy will be in attendance as well as descendants of A. Q. Miller. The reopening coincides with the start of the Smithsonian Institute's amazing Voices and Votes: Democracy in America displays at the Museum. This event will run from November 25-January 7, 2024. Learn why we are a democracy instead of a kingdom, why the Founders wanted a government lead by the people, and how our democracy has grown and changed since its establishment.Thew rights and responsibilities of American citizens are explained and ways to influence the government, as permitted in the Constitution are provided as well. Very informative, very interactive and very fun!

November 27-Our Freedom to Make Music-Mike McCracken, professional musician, with explain and demonstrate how a uniquely American instrument, the resonator or Dobro guitar is used in many forms of American music. You will love this!

November 30 - Founding Documents of Kansas-Virgil Dean, Historian, a very entertaining presentation, with historic artifacts to share, Virgil Dean will tell the stories of how the Kansas Constitution and related documents came to be and how the influence our lives today.

December 9 - Bob Dole A Life of Service, Julie Clover, Dole Institute of Politics. Come celebrate the life and service of Senator Bob Dole, the incredible sacrifices he made, and how he became a national leader with honesty and integrity.

December 13 - An History and Update of the Farm Bill in Congress, Nick Levendofsky, Executive Director of the Kansas Farmers Union, will update us on farm legislation and policy, vital to Republic County and Kansas. Great Speaker!

 

Museum Tours We love to take groups through on a tour of the Museum. Come learn about farming history, Republic County history, Kansas Rock Island railroad history, history of early Kansas settlers, and more. Just let us know we are coming and we'll give you the grand tour!
